2004 ANNUAL REPORT

In accordance with the By-Laws the Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 with nine members present. The Foundation continues its tradition of a single annual meeting with the Executive Board having full authority and responsibility of conducting all affairs.  All cash income and actual cash expenses are reported.  However, there is no reporting of the huge amount of "in-kind volunteer hours" donated by individuals or underwritten by Fuku-Bonsai to maintain the collections, conduct workshops,  the monthly Bonsai Days, and as a liaison with bonsai organizations.

Prior to the meeting,  president emeritus Hiroshi Ikeda walked the Hawaii State Bonsai Repository with MPBF president Michael Imaino. They are shown with the Japanese Black Pine that Hiroshi donated to the collection.  Hiroshi was seriously wounded in World War II and the increasing effects forced him to disperse his collection over the past two years. His outstanding Black Pine entered the collection two years ago.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

I am pleased to report another year of outstanding teamwork and cooperation has passed for the Mid-Pacific Bonsai Foundation. 2004 presented many unforeseen challenges, yet the foundation and the corporation have steadily moved ahead on all our long-term projects.

One highlight of 2004 was a visit in May from Jerry Meislik of Whitefish, Montana. Jerry is a Fuku-Bonsai stockholder and author of the recently published book FICUS, THE EXOTIC BONSAI. As part of our guest trainer program, Jerry took on a high potential Chinese Banyan donated by MPBF’s president emeritus, Hiroshi Ikeda. The tree, now named "Mahalo," is showing vigorous growth.

The Foundation continues to participate in the Big Island Bonsai Association’s Spring Bonsai Show and its Annual July 4th All Big Island Bonsai Show. Our monthly Bonsai Days on the second Saturday of each month continues. The Fuku-Bonsai website now exposes our principles and goals to a worldwide audience!

My hopes for the coming year include continuing to meet our responsibilities as public custodians of donated memorial bonsai and outreach to an ever-widening circle of members, docents and guests to the Fuku-Bonsai Cultural Center and Hawaii State Bonsai Repository. Please join me in these dreams.

                                                        Respectfully submitted,
                                                                                      (s) Michael S. Imaino, President

In 2004,  we lost Foundation co-founder Charles Biltoft and international bonsai master John Naka.  With Fuku-Bonsai largely recovering, there will continue to be an increasing amount of activity with the Foundation playing significant roles that could include publishing and co-hosting the Annual Meeting of the Fuku-Bonsai Hawaii-Alaska Bonsai Club tentatively set for the second Saturday of February 2006.
